Plot 6

James Denny

In Griffiths, there is a Lot 6 in the name of James Denny(Deeney). 7ac. 2 rd.

In 1861, it was divided in to 6a and 6b.

6a was held by James Denny and 6b, newly valued in name of John Denny. This was presumably a division of the plot between father and son. The house valuation of James Denny was reduced and a house and land added for John Denny.

Between 1878 and 1881, they both changed to Patrick Sweeney (John) and the lists cross referenced it to Lot 19 in the same name i.e. Patrick Sweeney (John).

In 1901, Lots 6a & 6b changed to James C. McAteer (James Charlie’s) and later to his widow Cassie McAteer, Mary Charlie’s mother.

In 1870, the holding was split, half to Annie McAteer (presumably widow) and half to the other Morgan Sweeney in Doaghbeg, Murcadh Sweeney (Charlie Murcadh), which became part of what came to make up the Neidi Murcadh farm.

2 houses on the land, occupied by Morgan Sweeney and a Bernard Duffy, had been demolished in 1867. It is possible that Morgan was a son of John Sweeney Senior and Rose and moved to Lot 9 after the death of his brother Charles Sweeney in 1867.
